Podres shuts out the New York Yankees 2-0 on eight hits, relying on his fastball and a deceptive changeup

Special Features: We are proud to offer the home of Johnny Podres for sale, one of the great left- handed pitchers of the Brooklyn Dodgers defeating the Yankee's in their own stadium in the 7th game of the 1955 World Series. Johnny shut out the Yankees  2-0 in the final game . He gave Brooklyn its one and only World Series victory. No other pitcher had won a World Series final game for Brooklyn.  Johnny beat the Bronx Bombers in the 3rd game of the World Series as well. Johnny later moved with the Dodgers to Los Angeles where his "Pull the Shade Down" Change up, Curveball  & Fastball had great success against his opponents. Johnny was honored on the front cover of the 1955 Sports Illustrated " Sportsman of the Year" award. He was proud to pitch alongside two other greats-Sandy Koufax and Don Drysdale. In the most recent book entitled Johnny Podres-Brooklyn's Only Yankee Killer written by Bob, John & Robert S. Bennett it was noted that Mickey Mantle once remarked that Johnny was not as fast as Sandy but he was just as good. Johnny married in 1966 to his beautiful wife Joanie who traveled with Johnny giving up her career as a professional skater with the Ice Follies who performed nationwide.

Johnny Podres was born and raised in this home  located at 18 Lamos Lane, Witherbee, N.Y. Town of Moriah in Essex County. The design of this home is a Townhouse with 3 bedrooms, spacious living room with wall to wall carpeting and maple hardwood flooring underneath, freshly painted sheetrock walls, formal dining area with the original furnishings, nice kitchen area with new tile flooring, pine cabinetry, & freshly painted, full bathroom, oil fired hot air heat, cover porch area, new vinyl siding, town water & sewer, minutes to Lake Champlain & Lincoln Pond Johnny's favorite fishing spots in the Adirondacks.  Johnny was an outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish in the off season.

1955 MVP

Podres pitched a complete game 7-hit victory on his 23rd birthday in Game 3. In the climactic Game 7,
Podres pitched a shutout, winning 2-0, to bring Brooklyn its first and only World Series championship.
It was the first time a team had won a best-of-seven World Series after losing the first two games.

Podres was given the first-ever World Series MVP Award by Sport magazine and presented with a red two-seater Corvette

Later he was honored as the Sportsman of the Year by Sports Illustrated magazine.

"He was one in a million," former Dodgers general manager Buzzie Bavasi said.
"I've had many good pitchers on my teams during my career,
including the best in the business in Sandy Koufax,
and I am sure that all these pitchers will agree that if a club had to win one game,
it would be Podres that would get the call."
